Resonance patterns

Resonance Patterns (2024) is a sculptural series of nine drawings that captures the intricate dance of sound frequencies and vibrations. Inspired by Margaret Neill's Destination series, I created these pieces while immersing myself in music with varied frequencies. Each work uses wire to create patterns that reflect the resonance phenomena explored in physics, music, and contemporary spirituality.

Drawing on Heinrich Hertz’s groundbreaking research on electromagnetic waves and Mattias De Stefano's spiritual teachings on alternative dimensions, I explored the range of frequencies known as ‘healing tones’. I was eager to understand how certain frequencies, when transmitted through sound, can profoundly affect our emotions and feelings. Scientific studies suggest these frequencies can alleviate conditions such as anxiety, fear, chronic stress responses, insomnia, and more.

Over twelve days, I listened to a specific frequency each morning while sculpting the wire. I allowed my mind to release control, letting the act of creation unfold naturally. As the day passed, I observed how the interplay of light and shadow shifted with the changing perspectives and illumination of the wire patterns. While drawing the shadows, I attempted to capture the peaks and troughs of sound waves, echoing my own emotions and the body's responses. The process became an intimate exploration of both the resonance of the frequencies and my inner world.

Medium: Craft wire, drawing with graphite pencil and oil pastel on card, shadows.

The artwork photography was created as part of the Putting Ourselves into the Picture project, with the invaluable guidance of the incredible artistic team at Crow+Kow.
