SPARE CHANGE

Alena’s inspiration for Spare change (2021) originated from her own money worries creeping into her thoughts and regularly stealing her sleep at night. Conducting research with financial experts helped her to abstract her own limiting beliefs, emotions, and biases towards money that could create enormous anxiety. Using a combination of fluid art painting, the psychology behind the colour of money, abandoned glass, and money itself she invited viewers to reflect on what money means to them and how it influences their lives.

The project was exhibited at Patriothall Gallery, Edinburgh in June 2021 as part of the Contemporary Practice End of Year Show at Leith School of Art. Experimenting with an artistic way to price her work, Alena sold a few glass paintings to private collectors during the show.
